A History of the Club

In 1978, Bob Smith, a former owner of H&R Block’s Louisville franchise, decided to gather salespeople together. He wanted to help them become more professional and productive through career workshops, seminars, and clinics. His desire was to form a pool of successful salespeople whom, together, would work towards attaining their common goals.

This foundation collectively formed as the Louisville Sales Club. Michael Lavera was elected as its first President in 1979. As an active member of The Sales and Marketing Executives of Louisville (SME), Bob Smith was enthusiastically assisted by SME members with many of them joining the LSC! To this day, the Louisville Sales Club remains completely independent and is not affiliated with any other national organization

The Louisville Sales Club is a Companion Organization to SMA, The Sales Marketing & Management Association. The Louisville Sales Club was founded by SMA in 1979 to help develop frontline sales people. LSC members may choose to go on to join (or affiliate with) SMA as they develop their careers. SMA has come to be know as the place where sales and marketing solutions connect. LSC members interact with SMA to 'Learn, Work and Play', in formal and casual settings with experienced peers in sales and marketing.
